Small Group Dialogues
Why small group dialogues are the best return on investment?
Education sessions often have a short-lived impact. Employees are initially enthusiastic about what they have learned, but can quickly forget the information due to daily demands at work. This leads to difficulties in applying the training when needed, thus diminishing the organization’s investment.
To address this, TransFocus offers two innovative and effective options for small group dialogues that help employees to continue the learning journey, including 1) identifying and removing stressful thoughts and practicing skills learned during education sessions, ensuring long-term impact and a better return on investment for companies.
What to expect
These dialogues are 1-hour sessions where TransFocus facilitators create a confidential and judgment-free space for up to 10 attendees to discover and address their blockages that interfere with everyday interactions.
These types of dialogues usually follow one or more of our education sessions. Employees who are ready to practice and deepen their competence on gender diversity will be offered the option to sign-up for one or more of the sessions described below. Attendees are asked before the session what scenario(s) or stressful thoughts they want to work through during the session. They can either provide their own responses or select from a list of options we have compiled through our work with other organizations over the years.
-
• TransFocus facilitator walks attendees through common scenario(s) involving trans people (e.g., recovering from misgendering, pushing back on harmful jokes, and responding to a trans employee who has come out at work).
• Use different methods, depending on the topic and attendee needs. This can include roleplaying, fishbowl exercises, self-reflection questions, or watching and discussing a brief video.
• Allows for nuanced and complex information to emerge that is directly applicable to attendees’ roles and work.
-
• TransFocus facilitator uses an inquiry-based approach to walk attendees through reoccurring stressful thoughts about trans issue.
• Attendees make surprising realizations that free them to be present and responsive to trans people’s needs.
• Attendees reduce hesitation and gain confidence on trans issues, sparing them missteps.
